It is the official publication of the International Committee on Systematics of Prokaryotes and the Bacteriology and Applied Microbiology Division of the International Union of Microbiological Societies. International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology is published by the Microbiology Society, a learned society that promotes microbiology at all levels, and has a 2014 Impact factor of 2.511. The Editor-in-Chief is Professor Aharon Oren.
