IUMS - International Union of Microbiological Societies
IUMS is one of the unions of the International Science Council (ISC) which is a non-governmental organization with a unique global membership that brings together 40 international scientific Unions and Associations and over 140 national and regional scientific organizations including Academies and Research Councils. IUMS was founded in 1927 as the International Society of Microbiology, and became the International Association of Microbiological Societies affiliated to the International Union of Biological Sciences (IUBS) as a Division in 1967. It acquired independence in 1980 and became a Union Member of ICSU in 1982. ICSU (the International Council for Science) together with the International Social Science Council (ISSC) has merged into ISC since 2018. General assembly at IUMS 2022
The General assembly will be hold in Rotterdam and is scheduled on Thursday, July 21st from 13:30 to 15:00. Since the IUMS congresses are hybrid meetings, we are working that delegates which cannot be in person in Rotterdam can participate the General Assembly virtual online.More details follow soon.

Nominations, containing a biography of the nominee and a statement indicating a willingness to serve, are sought from National Committees and from Divisions for the offices of

- Secretary-General (unopposed)
It is important that elected members of the Executive Board will be responsible for specific portfolios and that the nominees are aware about their duties and responsibilities The nomination forms can be downloaded from here

IUMS Congresses 2022

Letter of the IUMS president
Dear fellow microbiologist,
The year 2021 was a real challenge, which will probably continue through 2022 with the various Covid variants spreading all over. Still, we are now making serious efforts to re-establish our contacts and to go back to face-to-face meetings and activities. We start with the next IUMS congress is planned for July 20-22, 2022 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. For more information go to iums2022.com
We hope that by July we can meet in person and communicate with our colleagues and our students. Please note that members of IUMS member societies will get a reduction in the registration fee!! I hope that this congress will be the venue for excellent science and for renewal of scientific contacts. Hope to see all of you there!
IUMS Statement on Ukraine
The International Union of Microbiological Societies expresses its deep dismay and concerns regarding the military offensives being carried out in Ukraine. We follow and support the statement of the International Science Council and hope that the conflict will not have serious impact on the research and academic community in Ukraine.
